It was announced at the end of this summer that two Essex-based engineering companies have reached the regional finals of the National Apprenticeship Awards 2017 (East of England).

For board members Teledyne e2v, a leading manufacturer in imaging solutions and quantum technology, this is not their first acknowledgment from the National Apprenticeship board, Having been listed as one of the top ten employers in 2016 from the UK Top 100 Apprenticeships Employers list, Teledyne e2v are once again being recognised for their dedication in supporting apprenticeships.

Also reaching the final stages of the award for Regional Employer of the Year are Halstead-based foundry, Maycast-Nokes Precision Engineering Ltd. In 2016 they also featured in the prestigious Top 100 Apprenticeships Employers list and were the first foundry to do so.

This engineering company produces high-quality castings used within the aerospace industry but, in order to produce these, it requires years of experience and so, faced with a clear skills shortage and an aging workforce, Maycast-Nokes began investing in skills development in 2013 with its apprenticeships scheme which means that, now, 10% of its team are apprentices.

To reach this stage of the awards is a tremendous achievement, having already beaten nearly 800 entries. Now in its 14th year, the winners of the National Apprenticeship Awards will be announced in December and will be invited to the national, final ceremony in January. Having reached this stage of the awards, both Teledyne e2v and Maycast-Nokes have secured their place again in the Top 100 list for 2017.
