In November the ESB Sector Action Group for Logistics and South Essex College (SEC) saw a great turn out and even better engagement as employers, industry representatives, and training providers all came together to talk about the skills and recruitment challenges that collectively, they all face in the sector.

On Thursday 11th February, the ESB Sector Action Group will meet again to build on the momentum that the Skills & Recruitment Challenges Event created. Sector Lead for Logistics, Sean Kirby (Director of Woodland Logistics) invites all sector action group members to attend as well as local logistics organisations from within the Greater Essex locality:

“The sector group will be integral in developing the initiatives outlined below, and I encourage industry colleagues to get involved to help shape the delivery of these schemes:

1) Education & Industry Schools Programme (extension into the logistics sector). Please support this programme. Your involvement could include experiences of work (work shadowing/experience), industry visits, mentoring activities/projects and support with non-curriculum days.

2) Proposed LGV Driver Sponsorship Programme. The fund will cover the cost of the licence acquisition – companies who have offered candidates a formal offer of employment and job placement on successful LGV pass can apply. Also open to existing companies wishing to progress staff from ‘warehouse to wheels’

3) An Essex version of the board game ‘Business on the Move’. This board game can support students gain a greater understanding of logistics with many on-line activities available to support industry colleagues engage with schools to help promote the sector”.

I will be delighted to see you at the meeting and thank you in anticipation of your much needed views on this matter”.
