What's Your Thing Careers Booklet Launch

On Tuesday October 3rd, Cllr. Kevin Bentley, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, Skills, Infrastructure and Digital Economy, and Cllr. Ray Gooding, Cabinet Member for Education, were greeted by seven Chelmsford-based students to present them with the very first copies of our newly released careers information booklets.

Adam Jones, Essex Employment and Skills Board (ESB) member of Teledyne e2v, also attended the event to help present the booklets and represent the ESB. The event was held at Great Baddow High School where the pictured students all received the opportunity to be the first to receive their booklets and speak with the councillors about their ambitions.

Our second edition of the 'What's Your Thing?' careers information booklets will once again be distributed to every year 9 pupil across Essex, Southend and Thurrock. More than 20,000 students will receive a copy of their booklets, which contains a wide range of information on our seven priority sectors:

  • Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering
  • Care
  • Construction
  • Financial & Related Services
  • Health
  • IT, Digital and Creative
  • Logistics

The booklet aims to inspire a young audience to consider one of the many local career opportunities that will become available to them once they finish their education. With more than 200 different job roles listed throughout the booklet, Essex students are receiving local, relevant careers information which also aligns to business need and future growth of the different industries.

In addition to the support given to students, all secondary schools will also be receiving copies of the booklets to ensure teachers have access to better information when teaching mandatory careers and information guidance lessons. Teachers and careers advisors can download free teaching resources around the 'What's Your Thing?' information here.
