Skills Evidence Base Summary Booklet 2017

Over the past four years, we have been delivering local and regional reports on the employment and skills agenda in order to help shape the skills system across Essex, Southend and Thurrock. Now, in its fourth edition, our much awaited Evidence Base Summary booklet is back with even more information than before.

The booklet contains overviews from local and national data, surveys and reports and feedback from local businesses. It will aim to be used as a guide to inform local government, influencers educators and training providers about employer-need, as well as to be used as a platform to support activity around these agendas.

This summarised research report contains key information from our sector and district profiles which will be released later this month. From job vacancy information and further education and skills data, to regional and national headlines, our information covers all fourteen districts across Essex, Southend-On-Sea and Thurrock. Beyond this, we have also included summaries of each of the key sectors which are contributing to the local economy, but are also impacted by skills shortages. These include:

  • Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering
  • Care
  • Construction
  • Financial & Related Services
  • Health
  • IT, Digital & Creative
  • Logistics

This year, there were nearly 85,000 job vacancies in these seven sectors alone (an increase of 12% since our last report). As a result, we are continuing to work with more local businesses and partners, developing more activities and are striving to develop a skills system that work for Essex.
