Your Future 2017 Careers Event
Basildon Council's annual 'Your Future' careers event will be back this year in order to promote the diverse employers within Essex's priority sectors, presenting opportunities and aspirations aimed at 15 - 19 year olds who are leaving education and preparing for their future.
Sponsored by the ESB and board partners, DST, Your Future will be held in Towngate Theatre, Basildon on Monday 9th October from 4pm - 7pm. Employers in the Basildon, Billericay and Wickford areas are welcome to exhibit free of charge. As the event is about showcasing the diversity of local businesses, employers do not need to be actively recruiting in order to attend the event, though the event will serve as a great platform to promote your offers of apprenticeships, traineeships or job vacancies to hundreds of young people and their parents who attend each year.
The event was created in order to address some of the critical skills shortages of our priority sectors in Essex, namely:
- Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering
- Care
- Construction
- Financial & Related Services
- Health
- IT, Digital & Creative
- Logistics
Over 8,600 job vacancies were posted in Basildon in these sectors over 2016 which demonstrates the wealth of opportunitiy available to local residents in beginning a valuable career locally. Many, if not all, of the sectors as listed above will continue to face significant skills gaps and recruitment challenges if we do not act now to attract young talent in to the industries.
