Be the Reason Care Campaign

The ESB has been supporting Essex County Council (ECC) in delivering a regional care campaign to highlight the valuable and rewarding careers that can be found working in the care sector.

ECC has now delivered a 'Careers in Care' news feature as part of its 'Be the Reason' campaign which provides unique insights and case studies from local care employers and shares the stories of the many lives that have been enabled and enriched by people working in care. The people recognised in the supplement work in very different areas of care and have all entered the care sector through different routes, showcasing that the care sector is accessible to anybody who has a passion for helping others.

If you feel you could give your time to make a difference to other people's lives, you can visit Living Well Essex to find out how to begin your career.

Across the UK, there has been recognition of a national care crisis (reported, for example, in publications such as: The Daily Mail, The Guardian, The Telegraph and The BBC to name a few). This is very much the case in Essex where our own research shows that, whilst there were 44,500 people working in the sector as of 2016, there were also 7,100 vacancies posted in that same year; this equates to almost 1/6th of the entire care workforce in Essex.

As a result, the ESB has aided ECC in producing its successful public awareness and recruitment campaign. Be the Reason was designed to demonstrate what it means to work in care, as well as to challenge the negative misperceptions of the industry.

Now in its second year, this campaign has already been delivered across multiple channels and platforms across Essex such as: radio, print media, community packs, jobs fairs and social media campaigns. Last year over 60 people were recruited into care roles within as a direct result of the campaign within its first two months.

The Be the Reason campaign was relaunched this year offering even more information on local employers with live job vacancies and examples of inspiring role models inside the news feature.
