Gearing up for our first Finance Sector Taster Day

We're delighted to be working with Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) staff and a number of Finance sector representatives to deliver our first ever Finance Taster Day, on the 13th of July, as part of the ESB's wider Education and Industry STEM Programme.

The day will see 120 students from Essex schools attend and take part in a number of industry and academic-led workshops highlighting some of the careers in the sector that are open to young people as they leave school, college and university in the future, as well as an employer Q&A panel providing the opportunity for students and school staff to ask questions of sector representatives.

We're extremely grateful to have been afforded the opportunity for pupils to 'have a go' in ARU's Bloomberg Financial Markets Lab that aims to provide students with an experience as close as possible to working in a real-life financial organisation. In addition, we're thankful to companies such as IFDS and RSA Insurance who have agreed to support the day and give valuable insight to young people.

We'll look to ask attendees about their experience on the day in order to inform future events and we'll gauge whether their perception and understanding of careers in the sector has improved thanks to coming along. And where students express a particular desire to pursue the sector further we'll look to keep them engaged with the Education and Industry STEM Programme in years to come, inviting them to be part of other projects and events relating to the financial sector.

If your company would like to come along and support the day in some way, or you would like further information about the Education and Industry STEM Programme and its plans for the Finance sector in 17/18 get in touch with us at e&i.stem@essex.gov.uk
