New Health and Care Apprenticeships

Health and Care Apprentices

It is predicted that the number of people over the age of 85 in England will double in the next 20 years. This means that there will be an increase in the number of elderly people with more complex health needs, requiring services from both the health and social care sectors.

The rise in demand of individuals requiring both services means that health and care providers will need to work closer together to supply an integrated service that avoids duplication, promotes care co-ordination (whereby services share information about a person’s assessment, treatment and care) and subsequently reduces costs on an already overburdened NHS.

In response, the ESB have helped develop a new rotational apprenticeship pilot to support the needs of the Health and Social Care sectors in order to build a flexible workforce with a broad range of skills. The pilot is providing opportunities for young people entering into both the Health and Care sectors to experience several different roles and to develop a range of skills from across these sectors.
